YOGI TEA: feel good, do good, be good
Ayurveda is based on one of the oldest human wisdoms (Veda) about the miracle we call life (Ayur). It was only in the 1960’s that yoga and Ayurveda started spreading from India across the world. Yogi Bhajan, a Master of Kundalini Yoga, was a pioneer of this holistic, yogic way of life, which enables people to live happily, healthily and with greater awareness. He shared his wisdom and knowledge about a healthy life and the use of specially selected herbs and spices with his students, while serving them a comforting and aromatic herbal tea which the students lovingly called ‘Yogi Tea’.
In 1986 YOGI TEA® was introduced onto the European market as a pioneer in ‘Wellness Teas’ and, since then, has been one of the most successful herb and spice teas in Europe. In 1929, Yogi Bhajan was born in the little village Kot Harkarn what is now Pakistan. As a young man, he was in the habit of seeking out and visiting every holy person he could find. He learned Kundalini Yoga and he became a Master himself at the age of only sixteen. He encouraged his students to complete their education and start careers. But many of them could not get jobs because of their long hair and turbans, so he suggested they start their own businesses, which is how YOGI TEA originally developed. First exclusively sold in the Golden Temple restaurant, his famous recipe was soon brought into the mainstream, and it is now one of the leading tea companies in the health food market in the USA and Europe. Today, people all around the world enjoy the special blends of more than 80 selected organically-grown herbs and spices that give the 45 varieties of YOGI TEA® their unmistakable flavour and health-giving properties.
YOGI TEA®’s roots stem from the 3,000 year-old Indian Ayurvedic teachings about the balance between body, mind and soul. An uplifting blend of spiritual and physical practices, Kundalini Yoga incorporates movement, dynamic breathing techniques, meditation, and the chanting of mantras, such as Sat Nam, meaning “truth is my identity.” The goal is to build physical vitality and increase consciousness. His form of Kundalini Yoga does not condone extremes of asceticism or renunciation. In fact, he encouraged his students to marry, establish businesses, and be fully engaged in society. Yogi Bhajan?’s version of Kundalini Yoga has continued to grow in influence and popularity largely in the US, Europe and other continents with the training of many thousands of teachers. It is popularized through books and videos and teachers and through the publicity accorded it by various celebrities who, such as Madonna, Demi Moore, Cindy Crawford, Russell Brand, Al Pacino, or who are known, or have been known, to practice it.
